lately

…i have been m.i.a. from tumblr as the loverly megan pointed out, (i blame my job,) but i’m not admitting defeat!  so lately, we…

spent a lovely sunday afternoon at suprasensorial in the hirshhorn, (now extended until 12 august.  YOU MUST GO.  it was awesome!)

took a weekend roadtrip to my parents for mother’s day and celebrated by shooting some guns in her honor, (obvi)

and had a joint b-day celebration with the craigs at the “battle of the beltways” (nats v. orioles).  i’m really starting to enjoy baseball (it might have a little something to do with the margaritas they serve at the ballpark.)

next up: memorial day weekend in philly (i’ve never been and i’m SO excited!)  any recommendations of things to see, do, eat??

on saturday bp & i trekked to RFK stadium for the Curbside Cookoff: “Trucko de Mayo” - a gathering of 40+ DC food trucks.

while we obviously weren’t able to try everything, we definitely found some new faves!    we started with some skewers from Stix, then went to Big Cheese for their mt fuji: brie & apples on whole wheat with a touch of honey.  divine!  bp loved his tacos from TaKorean & we topped off the day with cheesecake from That Cheesecake Truck.  we left with a bit of a sunburn & a list of new trucks we hope to catch around DC!

exactly a month ago yesterday, bp scored us each a seat at minibar.  we didn’t realize at the time that it was easter sunday (which might be why he got us the reservation), but we were ecstatic, nonetheless!!!

we arrived at America Eats Tavern last night, with nervous excitement of what was in store for us.  we were seated at the mini bar overlooking a small kitchen, where we watched the 3 chefs prep and plate each of our 27 courses (yes, 27 courses); it was like watching a meticulously choreographed dance.  we were encouraged to ask questions of the chefs throughout the meal (what am i eating?  how did you make it?  tell me about when anthony bourdain visits!).  we had an absolute BLAST eating and chatting with the chefs through the many, many courses, and i even managed to snap a few pics in between bites.

my favorites of the evening?  “adam & eve” - a foie gras pb&j, olive oil soup with mandarin, and vermont snow.  the whole evening was more than a meal…it was an experience.

bp came across this recipe and emailed it to me as this weekend’s “baking challenge.”  and what a challenge it was…a huge pain in the butt, but they do taste pretty good.  i do, however, think i’ll be leaving the Oreos to Nabisco in the future.
